The STEM Center at SVSU was founded in 2014 with generous support of Dow (formerly The Dow Chemical Company). The mission of the center is to serve as a coordinated network of opportunities to link K-12, university and regional employers. Our purpose is to develop a STEM talent pipeline to meet the current and future needs of the Great Lakes Bay Area by:
- Providing professional development for STEM teachers
- Engaging STEM professionals to enhance STEM learning
- Increasing experiential learning for students at all grade levels

Million Girl Moonshot is a program to engage under-served 6th - 12th grade students in deeper STEM learning.

Go Baby Go
SVSU Go Baby Go is a non-profit organization aimed at improving the lives of children (ages 3-6) who are experiencing significant mobility delays. The engineering department modifies commercially available riding toys to suit the unique mobility of each child participant.
The timeline for the project is:
May 10: Applications due!
May 15 - 18: Measurement and Customization meetings with SVSU team

SMEK Camps
Building mini golf courses, engineering bubble wands, solar-roasted smores, LEGO robots...what’s not to like!? These 3-day camps allow 2nd-4th grade and 5th-8th grade students to explore science, technology, engineering, art, and mathematics through hands-on activities!

SMEKplus Senior Dates: July 23 - 25, 2024
Program Cost: $150.00
Students monitor the health of the Saginaw Bay through partners such as the Bay County Health Department.
Undergraduate students can receive funding for projects, such as this prototype of a 'muck vacuum' for the Bay City State Recreation Area.
Bay City Western students build a networked structure where worms and fish will produce food for plants.
Making classes like physics and math "cool", and is a goal of the Dow Corning Foundation/SVSU STEM Community Partnership.
Seventh graders at Thompson Middle School are building a hydroponic system as a result of the Dow Corning Foundation/SVSU STEM Community Partnership.
